Bill Cochran: "Exploring New Worlds: Planets Orbiting Other Stars"

Bill CochranVisit the Bullock Texas State History Museum for a talk by Dr. William Cochran on Saturday, May 24 at 2 p.m.

Bill is a research professor at the McDonald Observatory of The University of Texas at Austin, and a member of the science team for NASA's Kepler Space Telescope. He will discuss how astronomers find planets orbiting stars other than the Sun, and how he and his team follow up these discoveries using telescopes at McDonald Observatory. These studies involve decoding planetary orbits, the chemical content of planetary atmospheres, and more. Bill will also discuss the synergy between the Kepler Space Telescope and the McDonald telescopes.

This free talk is given in conjunction with the free exhibit "The McDonald Observatory: 75 Years of Stargazing."
